Peter Hultqvist is a Swedish politician who has been a member of the Swedish Parliament since 2002. He is a member of the Social Democrats party and represents the Stockholm County constituency.
He was appointed as the Minister for Defence in 2014, a position he has held since then, and was reappointed in the same position in 2019. As the Defence Minister, he has been engaged in strategic planning for the modernization of Sweden's defence and armed forces, with focus on the country's capabilities to deal with cyber threats and to maintain national security.
Hultqvist has been a member of several parliamentary committees and has also served as the Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parliament. Apart from politics, he has also worked as a senior education administrator, and as a teacher in the Stockholm region.
